Welland Biopower Limited

Welland Biopower Limited is an SPC formed to develop a waste wood to energy plant to be built in Worcestershire, UK (~1 hour north of London) by Balfour Beatty alongside Noy Fund and Equitix Fund.

As of March 2016, a 26 month construction program has been undertaken by the EPC contractor, MWH Treatment Limited (recently purchased by Stantec), which is also responsible for the operation and maintenance of the project.

Once complete, the project will convert 60,000 tonnes of dry waste wood feedstock supplied locally by Welland Waste Management Limited, an existing waste timber processor, into 9MW of electricity using Nexterra Systems Corp. proprietary novel gasification technology.

The clean electricity generated will be exported to the national grid and will be enough to power more than 17,000 UK households a year and, result in an annual saving of 28,809 tonnes of CO2. Status: on going investment.
