Energy Works Hull Limited

Energy Works Hull Limited is the SPC of a 28 MWp waste-to-energy gasification facility currently being built in Hull, northeast of England, one of the largest of its kind.

The plant is expected to process 240,000 tons of refused-derived fuel (RDF) per annum.

M+W acts as the projects EPC contractor and Cofely (GDF Suez) as its operation and maintenance contractor.

The plant is designed to have a single fluidized bed gasifier feeding a boiler and steam turbine generator with feedstock storage and associated mechanical pre-treatment of waste plant (MPT) all located on site.

The facility will produce sufficient electricity to power 43,000 homes; create 160 jobs during construction and 25 jobs once operational; regenerate a brownfield site; enable other businesses to reduce their carbon footprint; and provide cheap power and heating to local companies. An on-site educational resource center will also offer local SMEs and members of the public opportunities to learn about the importance of striving towards sustainable and renewable means of electricity generation.

Partners are BIG (a subsidiary of InfraCapital) & John Hancock

Status: on-going investment.
